2025/26 NPFL: Remo Stars go top as Matchday three serves dramatic scenarios
NPFL champions, Remo Stars, climbed to the summit of the table on Sunday after a hard-fought victory over Warri Wolves in Abeokuta, while Ikorodu City held Shooting Stars to a draw in Ibadan.
The Sky Blue Stars, fresh from their win over newcomers Kun Khalifat in Aba on Monday, were made to dig deep by the Seasiders at their adopted home ground. Samson Olasupo struck the decisive goal in the second half to seal maximum points for the Ikenne side, who dislodged Warri Wolves from the top spot.
Elsewhere, Shooting Stars and Ikorodu City shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Lekan Salami Stadium. Sodiq Ibrahim opened his account for the season with a 10th-minute strike for the Oluyole Warriors, but Shola Adelani levelled on the stroke of halftime. The result left both sides still searching for their first win of the campaign.
In Aba, Enyimba and Nasarawa United played out a goalless stalemate, while Rivers United and El-Kanemi Warriors also settled for the same outcome in Maiduguri. New boys Barau FC were denied a dream win in Kano as Ibrahim Yahaya’s strike canceled out Alex Oweilayefa’s opener for Bendel Insurance.
Kwara United recorded a convincing 2-0 win over Kun Khalifat in Ilorin, with Johnmark Shirsha and Emeka Kingsley on target for the Harmony Boys. Wikki Tourists continued their fine form in Bauchi, edging Abia Warriors 1-0 thanks to Jonathan Mairiga’s match winner.
At the Cathedral, reigning champions Rangers added to Plateau United’s misery with a 2-0 victory courtesy of Chidozie Iwundu and Chidiebere Nwobodo. Katsina United left it late to beat Kano Pillars 1-0 through Azeez Falolu, while Niger Tornadoes ended Bayelsa United’s unbeaten run with a narrow 1-0 win, sealed by Ismail Sarki’s first-half strike in Minna.
After three matchdays, Remo Stars sit top of the table alongside Wikki Tourists, Bayelsa United, and Warri Wolves, while Kano Pillars, Plateau United, Kun Khalifat, and Barau FC occupy the bottom spots. Action resumes next weekend.
