Boston Legacy FC sign Nigerian forward Gift Monday in $500,000 trade
Boston Legacy FC have completed a trade with Washington Spirit for Nigerian forward Gift Monday, with the Spirit receiving $500,000 in transfer threshold funds as part of the deal.
Monday joins Boston after making 48 regular-season appearances for Washington Spirit since arriving at the club in 2025. During that period, she scored 12 goals and provided three assists.
The Nigerian forward made NWSL history in September 2025 when she scored the fastest hat-trick from kick-off in league history. Monday found the net three times in just 35 minutes and 52 seconds against the Houston Dash.
Born in Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, the 24-year-old brings significant club and international experience to Boston.
Before moving to the NWSL, Monday spent two and a half seasons with Spanish club UD Tenerife, where she made more than 65 appearances and recorded 26 goal contributions across nearly 4,500 minutes.
She previously featured for Nigerian clubs FC Robo and COD United Amazons before making her senior debut for the Nigeria Women’s National Team in 2019.
Monday was also named in Nigeria’s 23-player squad for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and has continued to feature prominently at international level.
She was recently called up to represent Nigeria in the Super Falcons’ upcoming 2028 Olympic qualifying matches against Comoros.
Speaking after completing her move to Boston Legacy FC, Monday expressed her excitement about joining the club.
“I’m very happy and honored to be here today as I officially join this wonderful club,” Monday said.
Boston Legacy FC General Manager Domè Guasch said the Nigerian forward’s qualities would provide another dimension to the team’s attack.
“Gift brings a unique set of qualities as a forward that will add another dimension to our attack. She will contribute to our high press, create opportunities and be dangerous in the final third. She’s also a team player, and that matters to us as much as her quality on the pitch,” Guasch said.
Monday’s arrival gives Boston Legacy FC an experienced attacking option with a proven record in both domestic and international football.
