CAF confirms Samson Adamu as new General Secretary

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the appointment of Samson Adamu as its new General Secretary.

Adamu, who has served in an acting capacity since March 2026, was officially confirmed by the CAF Executive Committee (EXCO) this week.

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe said the appointment followed a comprehensive recruitment process, during which the position was widely advertised and several candidates were interviewed.

Adamu brings extensive experience in African football administration, having joined CAF in 2018 as Director of Competitions before later serving as Director of Tournaments and Events.

During his time with the continental governing body, he played a leading role in organising and delivering several major competitions, including CAF’s flagship tournament, the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations.

A graduate of the FIFA Master programme in International Management, Law and Humanities of Sport, Adamu also brings significant institutional knowledge and administrative experience to the position.

As General Secretary, he will oversee CAF’s day-to-day administration and support the implementation of the organisation’s strategic priorities.
