CS Sfaxien knock out Shooting Stars in CAF Confederation Cup
CS Sfaxien booked their place in the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup after defeating Nigeria’s Shooting Stars 2-0 in the second leg in Tunisia.
The Tunisian side overturned the deficit from the first leg to progress on aggregate and bring Shooting Stars’ continental campaign to an end.
Playing behind closed doors, Sfaxien started brightly and took the lead in the 27th minute through Youssef Habichia, putting the hosts in control of the tie.
Shooting Stars responded by pushing forward in search of an equaliser, but Sfaxien remained disciplined at the back and successfully limited the Nigerian side’s attacking threat.
The hosts eventually doubled their advantage in the 68th minute when Iyed Belwafi found the net, leaving Shooting Stars needing two goals to turn the tie around.
Despite their efforts, the Ibadan-based club could not break through Sfaxien’s defence as the hosts held on for a 2-0 victory and secured their passage to the next round.
The result ends Shooting Stars’ CAF Confederation Cup adventure following their return to continental football after a 27-year absence.
For Sfaxien, attention now turns to the next stage as they continue their quest for continental success.
