Christiana Uzoma replaces Chiamaka Nnadozie on 2026 CAF women's goalkeeper of the year list
Nigeria U-20 women’s national team goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma has been nominated for the 2026 CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award, emerging as the country’s sole representative in the category.
Uzoma’s nomination comes at the expense of two-time award winner and Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who was omitted from this year’s list.
Nnadozie’s absence follows a difficult 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign for the Super Falcons, during which Nigeria conceded eight goals in five matches.
The team crashed out in the quarter-finals of the tournament in Morocco before subsequently losing their World Cup playoff encounter against South Africa.
Uzoma, meanwhile, represented the Falconets during the qualifying campaign for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and at the tournament proper.
The Edo Queens goalkeeper will face competition from nine other nominees for the prestigious individual honour.
The other contenders are Chloe Ngazi (Algeria), Michaely Bihina (Cameroon), Cynthia Konlan (Ghana), Mercy Sikelo (Malawi), Fatoumata Karantao (Mali), Khadija Er-rmichi (Morocco), Adji Ndiaye (Senegal), Kaylin Swart (South Africa) and Hazel Nali (Zambia).
