D'Tigers ranked third in FIBA Africa Power Ranking ahead of World Cup Qualifiers
Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have been ranked third in the latest FIBA Africa power rankings ahead of the second round of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African qualifiers.
The second round of the qualifying campaign is scheduled to take place in Rades, Tunisia, and Dakar, Senegal, from August 27 to 30.
Despite a difficult start to the qualifiers, D’Tigers have regained momentum and currently boast a 4-2 record after an impressive three-game winning run in Luanda last month.
Head coach David Fizdale has also made significant changes to the squad, bringing in players with experience at the highest levels of international and professional basketball.
The changes appear to have strengthened the Nigerian team, with D’Tigers now expected to mount a strong challenge against their Group E opponents — Cameroon, Tunisia and Guinea.
Nigeria will be hoping to maintain its improved form and secure crucial victories in the second round as the team continues its quest to qualify for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
