Enugu dominates at 3rd National Para Games

The 3rd National Para Games concluded in grand style at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium velodrome, with Enugu State delivering a commanding performance to emerge overall champions.
The closing ceremony blended celebration and recognition, drawing high profile dignitaries including Nana Kashim Shettima, who represented the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu. Other notable attendees included Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, and Fatima Tajudeen Abbas.
In her remarks, the First Lady praised the athletes for their resilience, discipline, and determination, emphasizing that both medalists and non medalists remain champions.
She reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to inclusive sports development under the Renewed Hope agenda.
Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, assured para-athletes of continued support, highlighting their importance in the Commission’s programme while appreciating the Federal Government’s prioritization of sports.
On the medals table, Enugu State stood tall with an impressive haul of 40 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze medals. Bayelsa followed in second place, while Edo secured third position. Rivers and Lagos rounded out the top five, underscoring the competitive depth and growing strength of para-sports across the country.
The successful staging of the games not only celebrated athletic excellence but also reinforced Nigeria’s commitment to inclusivity and the development of para-sports nationwide.
