FIFA U-17 WWC: Akeem Busari promises aggressive Flamingos display against Korea DPR
Nigeria U-17 head coach Hakeem Busari has promised an aggressive performance from the Flamingos as they prepare to face defending champions Korea DPR in their final Group B match at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Busari acknowledged the quality of the Asian side, who have scored 12 goals and conceded just one in their opening two matches, but insisted that Nigeria would not adopt a purely defensive approach.
The coach explained that the Flamingos would aim to maintain a compact defensive shape, restrict Korea DPR’s attacking opportunities and take the initiative whenever possible.
“We will try to slow them down and play more men behind the ball, but we do not sit back,” Busari said.
He added that an aggressive mentality, tactical discipline and effective ball retention would be crucial to Nigeria’s chances against the four-time world champions.
Busari also emphasised the importance of pushing Korea DPR into their own half and converting scoring opportunities, while stressing that both teams deserved respect ahead of the encounter.
The Flamingos go into the decisive fixture on the back of a 2-0 victory over Puerto Rico, having suffered a 2-1 defeat to Poland in their opening match.
Nigeria need a positive result against Korea DPR to keep their hopes of reaching the Round of 16 alive. Busari’s side will be looking to build on their improved performance against Puerto Rico and remain in contention at the tournament.
