The FIFA Women’s Champions Cup 2027™ will reach its decisive stage at Nu Stadium, the new home of Inter Miami CF, with Nigeria’s Edo Queens now on the continental pathway to the global club competition after winning the 2026 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

FIFA has confirmed that the final phase of next year’s competition will be staged in Miami, with the bronze medal match and trophy decider scheduled for Sunday, January 31, 2027. The competition will crown the intercontinental women’s club champion in January. 

Mexico’s Club América Femenil and UEFA Women’s Champions League holders FC Barcelona Femení have already secured places in the Miami final phase, while the CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina champions will also qualify directly.

For Nigeria, Edo Queens have placed themselves firmly on the road to Miami after successfully defending their WAFU-B title in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, in September.

The Nigerian champions twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the WAFU-B final before winning 4-1 on penalties to retain the regional crown. The triumph secured Edo Queens’ place in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League finals. 

CAF has subsequently listed Edo Queens among the six zonal champions qualified for the continental finals, alongside AS FAR of Morocco, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, Kawempe Muslim of Uganda, Lekié FF of Cameroon, USFAS of Mali and FUS Rabat of Morocco, with the host nation’s representative still to be confirmed. 

The CAF Women’s Champions League finals will therefore represent the next major hurdle for Edo Queens. Success at that stage would put the Nigerian champions in contention for the African slot in the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup pathway.

The FIFA competition brings together the reigning champions from the six continental confederations, with the opening rounds determining the teams that will join the directly qualified continental champions at the final phase in Miami. 

Before the Miami showdown, the tournament will begin with the AFC and OFC champions meeting in Round 1. The winner will then face the CAF Women’s Champions League champions in Round 2.

The winner of that CAF-related Round 2 contest will advance to Miami, where they will meet the Concacaf champions in one semi-final. In the other semi-final, the UEFA champions will face the CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina winners. 

The 2027 edition will be the second staging of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, following Arsenal Women FC’s triumph in the inaugural competition last year.

FIFA Chief Football Officer Jill Ellis said the competition was created to provide the leading women’s clubs with an annual opportunity to compete on the global stage.

“The FIFA Women’s Champions Cup was created with a clear ambition: to give the best clubs in the world the chance to compete on the global stage every year,” Ellis said, adding that Miami would provide a fitting platform to showcase the quality and global appeal of women’s club football. 

Nu Stadium, which opened in April, will host the decisive stage, including the semi-finals, bronze final and championship match. Miami previously hosted FIFA Club World Cup and FIFA World Cup matches and is now set to welcome another major global football event. 

For Edo Queens, however, the immediate focus remains firmly on Africa. Having conquered WAFU-B for a second time, the Nigerian champions must now navigate the CAF Women’s Champions League finals before any potential journey towards Miami can become a reality.

The regional triumph has already confirmed Edo Queens as one of Africa’s leading women’s clubs and given Nigeria another opportunity to make an impact on the expanding global women’s club football stage.

If Edo Queens can successfully negotiate the CAF finals and subsequently emerge from the FIFA pathway, Nigeria could have a representative competing against continental champions from Europe, South America, North America, Asia and Oceania for global women’s club honours in Miami.
