Falconets set for WAFU-B U-20 showdown in new tournament format
Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, are gearing up for the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Girls’ Cup, which will be played in a new round-robin format in Benin Republic from November 7 to 12, 2025.
This year’s competition will feature just three teams, Nigeria, Ghana, and hosts Benin Republic, following the withdrawal of Burkina Faso and Niger Republic. The new league-style format replaces the traditional group-and-knockout system, with each team facing one another home and away. The team with the highest points at the end of all matches will be crowned champion.
Under the guidance of Coach Moses Aduku, who recently led the Falconets past Rwanda in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria will open their campaign against Ghana on November 8, before facing Benin Republic on November 9. The Falconets will meet Ghana again on November 11 and wrap up their fixtures against Benin on November 12.
The squad is currently camping at Beyond Limits Football Academy in Ikenne, Ogun State, as part of their preparations. The WAFU B tournament offers the young team crucial competitive exposure ahead of their upcoming CAF and FIFA youth competitions.
