Governor Eno Hails Super Eagles’ Historic Victory Over Rwanda, Rallies Support for Zimbabwe Clash
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has praised the Super Eagles for their impressive victory over Rwanda in Friday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
Governor Eno, who will serve as the chief host for Nigeria’s next qualifier against Zimbabwe in Uyo, emphasised the significance of the win in his goodwill message. “We know how crucial the match was, given our not too impressive showing in the past. We needed this victory to get our qualification back on track and the boys responded positively.” Despite a packed stadium of Rwandan supporters, the Super Eagles showcased resilience and determination, ensuring that victory songs echoed across Nigeria. “On Tuesday in Uyo against Zimbabwe, we will come out en masse to give them the necessary support to excel again,” he added.
Encouraging fans to turn out in large numbers and dress in green and white, Governor Eno urged Nigerians to create a formidable home atmosphere that would unsettle the visitors. “The Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo is reputed to be a slaughterhouse for opponents of the Eagles and Tuesday will not be an exception,” he declared. With the win, Nigeria has climbed to fourth place in the group standings with six points, four behind leaders South Africa after five matches.
A victory on Tuesday in Uyo will further boost their chances of securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
