Kano Pillars turn to title-winning Daniel Ogunmodede for revival
Kano Pillars have handed the reins to one of Nigeria's most respected football tacticians, appointing Daniel Ogunmodede as the club's new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
The four-time NPFL champions announced the appointment on their official X page on Friday, marking another major step in the club's rebuilding plans under newly appointed Chairman, Alhaji Ahmad Musbahu Garo.
Ogunmodede arrives in Kano with an impressive track record built on years of success at Remo Stars, where he transformed the Ikenne-based club into one of the country's strongest football sides.
The 46-year-old began his journey with Remo Stars as an assistant coach in 2015 and played a key role in securing the club's first-ever promotion to the NPFL the following year. He also helped nurture young talents through the Beyond Limits Football Academy while overseeing the club's youth team.
Promoted to head coach in 2020, Ogunmodede guided Remo Stars back to the top flight in 2021 before briefly taking up an assistant coaching role at Portuguese side CD Feirense. He returned to Nigeria in 2022 and continued his remarkable work, leading the Sky Blue Stars to back-to-back second-place league finishes in 2023 and 2024.
His biggest achievement came on April 27, 2025, when he etched his name into the club's history by guiding Remo Stars to their first-ever NPFL title, ending years of waiting for domestic league glory.
Ogunmodede has also earned recognition on the international stage. As part of the Super Eagles coaching crew, he helped the home-based national team qualify for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) while serving as an assistant coach with the senior national team.
Kano Pillars will now be hoping the experienced tactician can spark a similar transformation in Kano. After finishing a disappointing 16th in the 2025/26 season and narrowly escaping relegation, the Sai Masu Gida will be counting on Ogunmodede's winning mentality to restore the club to its former glory.
