Kanyinsola Ajayi stays grounded after back-to-back Diamond League wins over world champion Seville
Nigerian sprint star Kayinsola Ajayi says he remains focused on the process despite securing back-to-back Diamond League victories over reigning world champion Oblique Seville.
The 21-year-old continued his impressive run on Saturday, storming to victory in the men's 100m at the London Diamond League in 9.84 seconds. He finished ahead of Jamaica's Seville, who clocked 9.87s for second place, while Great Britain's Romell Glave claimed third in a personal best of 9.97s.
The performance saw Ajayi equal the Nigerian 100m record for the third time this season and marked his second consecutive Diamond League triumph over Seville, having also beaten the Jamaican at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene earlier this month.
Despite another landmark victory, Ajayi insisted his attention remains on maintaining consistency rather than celebrating individual wins.
"I am doing the right things, I am keeping my focus, and I am really enjoying my running. I am happy with the race today," he said after the race.
His London success came on the back of another outstanding performance in Eugene, where he also clocked 9.84s to defeat Seville and American sprint star Christian Coleman in one of the strongest 100m fields of the season.
Ajayi's breakthrough campaign has firmly established him among the world's elite sprinters. He has now recorded 9.84 seconds on three occasions this year, alongside a wind-assisted 9.72s at the NCAA Championships.
His red-hot form also offers Team Nigeria a major boost ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where he is expected to lead the country's charge for sprint medals.
