NPFL: Khun Khalifat FC make u-turn after exit drama

Kun Khalifat FC have made a swift return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after reversing their earlier decision to withdraw from the competition over disciplinary sanctions they considered excessive.

The privately run top flight side had initially announced their withdrawal following punishment linked to their failure to honour a scheduled fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors a move that triggered strong reactions across the Nigerian football community.

Less than 24 hours after stepping away, the club confirmed that talks with league authorities produced a positive outcome, paving the way for their immediate reinstatement into the NPFL.

In an official statement signed by Chief Executive Officer Michael Amaefula, the club said it was satisfied with the resolution reached after dialogue with league officials. He noted that both sides agreed to move past the dispute and focus on the broader interests of Nigerian football.

Amaefula also praised NPFL administrators for their willingness to engage and address the club’s concerns, while assuring improved collaboration going forward.

With the impasse settled, Kun Khalifat FC will now continue their league campaign and are set to host Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

The club called on supporters to come out in strong numbers for the encounter, describing it as a key fixture in their season, and expressed appreciation to fans for their patience during the brief period of uncertainty.
