An official of Abia Warriors was also accused of attempting to disrupt the live broadcast of the match by harassing a crew member of the league’s broadcast partner, engaging in conduct deemed capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
The NPFL imposed a ₦1 million fine on Abia Warriors for failing to provide adequate security as agreed at the technical meeting.
The club was handed an additional ₦2 million fine for attempting to disrupt the live broadcast of the encounter.
Abia Warriors were also ordered to pay ₦250,000 in compensation to the affected broadcast crew member to cover the cost of treatment for the injury sustained during the incident.
In a further disciplinary measure, the club’s multimedia officer, Chidera Favour Igwe, has been suspended from all NPFL activities for five matches, both home and away, for attempting to disrupt the live broadcast and harassing a crew member of the league’s broadcast partner.
The NPFL has given Abia Warriors 48 hours, within the prescribed working-day period from the date of the notice, to appeal the sanctions.
