NSC sets April 16 for inaugural MOC Meeting ahead of Enugu 2026 National Sports Festival

 

 

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has fixed Thursday, April 16, 2026, for the maiden meeting of the Main Organising Committee (MOC) for the 23rd National Sports Festival, tagged Enugu 2026, as preparations gather momentum for Nigeria’s premier multi-sport event.

 

The inaugural meeting is expected to address key aspects of planning, including infrastructure readiness, logistics, accommodation, security, media operations, and the overall framework to ensure a seamless and successful festival.

 

*Enugu 2026* is poised to be a landmark edition, marking the first time Enugu State will host the National Sports Festival—an indication of growing confidence in the state’s capacity to deliver a world-class sporting event.

 

Director General of the NSC and Chairman of the MOC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to delivering an outstanding festival in partnership with the Enugu State Government. He emphasized that early planning is critical to achieving excellence.

 

“The National Sports Festival remains a vital platform for talent discovery, youth engagement, and national unity. We are committed to working closely with the Enugu State Government and all stakeholders to ensure that Enugu 2026 sets a new benchmark in organisation and excellence,” Olopade said.

 

The Enugu State Government has also demonstrated strong commitment to hosting a successful event, with ongoing upgrades of sports facilities and the establishment of necessary structures for smooth execution.

 

The Main Organising Committee is chaired by Hon. Bukola Olopade, with Hon. Lloyd Ekweremadu serving as Vice Chairman. Other members include Engr. Habu Gumel, Comrade Philip Shuaibu, Ladan Al-Mustapha, Sunday Odebode, Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, Mbora Ikana, Dr. (Mrs.) Kehinde Ajayi, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar, Niyi Beyioku, Bldr. Mohammed Rabiu, Barr. Baba Saidu, Olufisayo Funke Odiaka, Utobo Emmanuel, Barr. Musa Ahmadu, Salisu Abubakar, Ebidowie Oweifie, Seyi Johnson, and Thecla Opara, who serves as Committee Secretary, alongside Olumide Bamiduro as Assistant Secretary.

 

With preparations now underway, stakeholders are optimistic that Enugu 2026 will set new standards for organisation and delivery in the history of the National Sports Festival.
