NWFL restores Nationwide League, set registration timeline
The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) has confirmed the return of the NWFL Nationwide League for the 2025 season, marking its first edition since 2023.
The Nationwide, Nigeria’s third-tier women’s league, was last staged in 2023 before being scrapped in 2024 and replaced by the now-suspended States League.
Announcing the development on Tuesday, NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, said the revival was approved following recommendations from the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“The reinstatement of the NWFL Nationwide is a significant step towards strengthening the women’s football pyramid in Nigeria, thanks to the Ibrahim Gusau-led NFF board,” Shabi noted.
“As the third tier, it plays a vital role in discovering and nurturing talent, giving grassroots clubs and players the opportunity to compete, grow, and aspire to higher levels of the game.”
Shabi further urged all interested clubs to complete their registration within the stipulated period by submitting entries via operations@thenwfl.com.
Registration opens Tuesday, August 19, 2025, and closes Friday, September 26, 2025. No late entries will be accepted.
The 2025 NWFL Nationwide will run from October 3 to October 12, 2025, with the host venue to be confirmed in due course.
