Orban hits six Super Lig goals in five games after stunning hat-trick
Gift Orban has strengthened his case for a return to the Super Eagles with a stunning hat-trick for Amedspor, taking his Turkish Super Lig tally to six goals in just five appearances.
The Nigerian striker was the star of the show on Sunday as Amedspor thrashed Istanbul Başakşehir 5-0 at the Seyrantepe Spor Kompleksi Stadyumu 1.
Orban scored all three of his goals after the interval, turning an already commanding Amedspor performance into a convincing victory.
The 23-year-old doubled Amedspor’s advantage seven minutes into the second half when he rose to meet Furkan Soyalp’s cross and directed his header into the bottom corner.
He struck again just two minutes later, finishing a swift counter-attack after receiving a precise layoff from Ermal Krasniqi.
Orban completed his hat-trick with 15 minutes remaining, again combining with Krasniqi before firing home to complete his outstanding individual display.
The treble took Orban’s league tally to six goals in five appearances, moving him level with Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen at the top end of the scoring chart.
Orban has also registered one assist during his five league outings, giving him seven goal contributions in the competition.
His current form represents a significant turnaround for the forward, who joined Amedspor on loan during the summer transfer window.
The Nigerian has now scored against Trabzonspor, Kasimpasa and Istanbul Başakşehir, establishing himself among the early standout performers in the Turkish top flight.
Osimhen, meanwhile, has also made an explosive start to the campaign with Galatasaray, scoring six goals and providing two assists in four Super Lig appearances before suffering a hamstring injury.
The contrasting circumstances surrounding the two Nigerians could make Orban’s latest performance particularly significant for Nigeria.
While Osimhen remains one of Eric Chelle’s key attacking options when fit, Orban’s sustained scoring form gives the Super Eagles coach another in-form striker to consider.
Orban’s hat-trick comes at an important time, with Nigeria preparing for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures.
His ability to maintain this level of production could increase pressure on Chelle to include the Amedspor forward in his plans.
For Orban, however, the immediate objective will be to maintain his remarkable scoring rhythm and continue proving himself in one of Europe’s competitive top-flight leagues.
With six goals already on the board after only five matches, the Nigerian forward has ensured that his name will be difficult to overlook when the next Super Eagles squad is considered.
