Precious Oscar celebrates maiden World Cup goal in Flamingos' victory over Puerto Rico
Nigeria’s Flamingos forward Precious Oscar has expressed her delight after scoring her first-ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup goal in the team’s 2-0 victory over Puerto Rico in Morocco.
Oscar found the net in the second half of stoppage time to seal Nigeria’s victory in their second Group B fixture, marking a memorable milestone in her international career.
The forward, who scored the Flamingos’ second goal in the 90+3rd minute, revealed that she was determined to ease the pressure on her teammates and was grateful to have found the back of the net.
Oscar also highlighted the influence of her experience at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, explaining that it helped her contribute positively to the team during the encounter.
She disclosed that she encouraged her teammates to remain optimistic and continue fighting, reminding them that anything could happen during a football match.
The victory was an important response from Nigeria following their 2-1 defeat to Poland in their opening Group B match, giving the team three valuable points and boosting their hopes of reaching the knockout stage.
With confidence lifted by the result, Oscar believes the Flamingos can build on their performance as they prepare for their final group-stage encounter against defending champions Korea DPR.
The Nigerian youngsters will need another determined display in their next fixture as they seek to secure progression to the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
