The House of Representatives has approved President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State, endorsing the suspension of Governor Siminialayi Fubara, his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, and the State House of Assembly.
The approval came during Thursday’s plenary session, presided over by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, with 243 lawmakers in attendance.
The motion, moved by the majority leader, underwent brief debate and amendments before being passed.
In a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, Tinubu announced the emergency measures, citing the need to restore order in the state.
He also appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Administrator to oversee Rivers State’s affairs for the duration of the emergency.
