Super Eagles draw Tanzania, Guinéa Bissau, Madagascar in AFCON 2027 Qualifiers

Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, have been handed a challenging route to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations after being drawn in Group L alongside co hosts Tanzania, Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar.

The draw ceremony, held on Tuesday, confirmed that the race for qualification will see the four teams battle for places at the continental showpiece scheduled to take place in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in June 2027.

Under the qualification format, the top two teams in each group are expected to advance to the finals.

However, Tanzania’s status as one of the tournament hosts adds a unique twist to Group L.

Should Tanzania finish among the top two teams in the group, only one other nation will secure qualification from the pool, making the contest even more competitive for the Super Eagles, Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar.

A total of 48 countries were drawn into 12 groups of four teams each for the qualifying campaign, which is set to kick off in September.

Nigeria will be aiming to secure an early qualification ticket and avoid any late drama in a group expected to produce fierce competition from start to finish.
