Taiwo Awoniyi donates boots to 350 young players in Kwara Kiddies League
Nigerian striker and Coventry City forward Taiwo Awoniyi has reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots football development by donating football boots to 350 young players participating in the Kwara Kiddies League (KKL).
The initiative, facilitated through the Taiwo Awoniyi Foundation (TAF), is aimed at supporting young football talents in Kwara State and providing them with essential equipment to develop their skills.
The distribution ceremony, held on Saturday, attracted commendation from the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Bolakale Mogaji, who praised Awoniyi for his generosity and sustained investment in youth football.
Mogaji, who assisted in distributing the boots, described the striker as a valuable partner in grassroots sports development, noting that his contributions go beyond providing equipment to creating opportunities for children to pursue their football ambitions.
He stressed the need for more individuals and organisations to invest in grassroots sports, adding that Awoniyi’s interventions represent the kind of support required to build a sustainable football development system.
The sports commission chairman also wished the striker continued success in his career, expressing hope that his example would encourage other successful sports personalities to give back to their communities and support the next generation of Nigerian footballers.
Speaking at the event, Kwara Kiddies League Chief Operating Officer Ibrahim Jatto expressed appreciation to the Taiwo Awoniyi Foundation on behalf of the league’s more than 500 young players.
“On behalf of the over 500 young players in the Kwara Kiddies League, I sincerely appreciate the Taiwo Awoniyi Foundation for its generous donation of football boots to our players,” Jatto said.
He explained that the foundation had consistently supported the league over the years through donations of playing kits, meals and cash rewards worth millions of naira for outstanding players.
According to Jatto, the latest donation would further encourage the young footballers, many of whom aspire to pursue professional careers.
He also highlighted the league’s growing visibility through its subscriptions to Wyscout and Eyeball, platforms that help showcase players’ abilities to a wider football audience and create opportunities for talent discovery.
“With increased visibility through our league’s subscriptions on Wyscout and Eyeball, your continued support is helping create greater opportunities for these young talents,” he added.
Jatto thanked the foundation for believing in the players and continuing to invest in their development, while expressing personal appreciation for Awoniyi’s commitment to the league.
The event was attended by Mrs Mary Awoniyi and Solomon Awoniyi, the striker’s parents, whose presence underscored the family’s support for the initiative.
Awoniyi, who serves as chairman of the Kwara Kiddies League, has continued to support grassroots football through initiatives designed to provide young players with the resources and opportunities needed to reach their potential.
The donation of boots to 350 participants further highlights the Taiwo Awoniyi Foundation’s commitment to youth development in Kwara State and the broader effort to identify and nurture Nigeria’s next generation of football stars.
