Nigeria newcomer Moses Usor has expressed his delight at receiving his maiden invitation to the Nigerian senior national team, insisting that the squad is fully motivated to begin the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with victory over Madagascar.

Usor earned his first call-up after an impressive start to the season with Austrian club LASK, where his performances have established him as one of the new attacking options available to head coach Éric Chelle.

The 24-year-old forward has recorded three goals and five assists in 12 appearances across all competitions this season. 

Speaking to Brilla FM, Usor described his arrival in the Super Eagles camp as a special moment and a fulfilment of a long-standing ambition.

The LASK forward also gave a positive assessment of his first training session with the Super Eagles, saying the players are already focused on the opening qualifier.

“I feel good and I am really happy to be here. It was an amazing feeling because it was everyone dream to play for the national team.” 

“The training session was good and everyone is ready. Everyone is fresh and we are motivated for a win,” he said. 

Nigeria will host Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, September 25, in their opening Group L fixture before travelling to Bissau to face Guinea-Bissau on September 29. The NFF confirmed Usor as one of three players receiving their first senior invitation for the qualifiers, alongside Isaac James and George Ilenikhena. 

Usor, who was previously ruled out of Nigeria’s Unity Cup campaign because of injury, is now hoping to make his competitive debut for the Super Eagles.

He stressed that the team must avoid looking beyond the immediate assignment against Madagascar, insisting that attention should only turn to Guinea-Bissau after Friday’s fixture.

“It is one game after the other, so for now, I don’t think Guinea Bissau should come first. So, we focus on Madagascar and talk about the Guinea Bissau game after the Madagascar game,” Usor concluded. 

The forward’s comments come as the Super Eagles intensify preparations in Uyo for their first AFCON 2027 qualifier.

Nigeria missed out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will now look to begin the next major qualifying campaign on a positive note.

Usor’s arrival has also added another attacking option to Chelle’s squad, which includes Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Akor Adams, Tolu Arokodare and Ilenikhena. 

With his club form earning him the opportunity, Usor will now hope to translate that confidence to the international stage if selected against Madagascar.
