The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOC Africa) has congratulated Nigeria on its impressive performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

ANOC Africa President, Honourable Mustapha Berraf, conveyed the congratulatory message to the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engineer Habu Gumel, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

Berraf commended Team Nigeria for its outstanding showing at the Games, which were held from July 23 to August 2, describing the achievement as a reflection of the rigorous preparation, clear vision and unwavering commitment of the athletes, coaches, administrators and other stakeholders involved in the development of Nigerian sports.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) member noted that Nigeria’s success extends beyond its borders, saying the performance further highlights the growing influence of African nations on the global sporting stage.

“These performances are the result of rigorous work, a clear vision, and the unwavering commitment of all those who work daily to promote sport in your country,” Berraf said.

He added that Nigeria’s achievements would resonate across Africa and inspire young athletes on the continent.

“They resonate across the African continent as a whole, and once again, confirm the growing influence of our nations on the global sports stage, further serving as a source of inspiration for African youths, who see your athletes as models of determination, discipline and excellence.”

Berraf also reaffirmed ANOC Africa’s continued support for Nigeria’s efforts to advance sports development and achieve greater success at international competitions.
