Ahmed Musa raises stakes, pledges 1.8m Naira reward for Milo U-13 finalists

Former Super Eagles captain and Milo Ambassador, Ahmed Musa, MON, has added extra motivation to the ongoing Milo Under-13 Football Tournament in Kano State after pledging a personal ₦1.8 million cash reward for the top three teams.

The tournament reaches its climax on Thursday at the Ahmed Musa Sports Arena in Kano, with the participating youngsters set to battle for the championship in what promises to be an exciting final.

Under Musa’s reward scheme, the eventual champions will receive ₦1 million, while the runners up will take home ₦500,000 and the third placed team ₦300,000, bringing his total personal commitment to ₦1.8 million.

The additional incentive comes on top of the prize money provided by tournament sponsor, Nestlé Milo, which has earmarked ₦500,000 for the winners, ₦300,000 for the runners up and ₦200,000 for the third-placed team.

Musa, who previously served as General Manager and player of Kano Pillars Football Club, said his intervention was motivated by the need to revive school sports and provide young footballers with the platform to develop their abilities.

He stressed that sustained investment in school and grassroots competitions remains essential to discovering and nurturing the next generation of Nigerian football stars.

“God has blessed Nigeria with abundant, skilful and talented players who need encouragement and support to project the image of the country,” Musa said.

The former national team skipper also called for greater corporate participation in grassroots sports, noting that increased investment would help identify and develop players capable of representing Nigeria at national and international levels.

Musa commended Nestlé Milo for its continued commitment to youth football and urged other corporate organisations to follow suit by investing in school and grassroots sporting programmes.

A total of 16 teams have participated in the competition, giving the young players an opportunity to gain valuable competitive experience while competing for attractive prizes and the tournament trophy.

The closing ceremony is expected to draw prominent figures from the sporting and corporate sectors, including Milo Category Manager, Gilbert Teenaboah Koduah, and the company’s Sports Marketing Manager, Mrs Funmilola Oyewole, among other dignitaries.
