Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna made a winning start to his French Pro B League campaign with Amiens STT on Tuesday, helping his new club secure a 3-2 victory over Lille Metropole TT.

Making his debut for Amiens, Aruna followed up with an impressive individual performance, beating Iran’s Hossein Hodaei 3-1.

The Nigerian, who joined Amiens in May, is expected to play a key role as the club pushes for promotion to France’s top division.

Elsewhere, Algeria’s Mehdi Bouloussa also made his mark, helping Courbevoie STT edge Compiégnois TT 3-2.

In Nantes, Nigerian table tennis legend Segun Toriola combined his player-coach duties with action at the table as Nantes defeated Frejus AMSL 3-1. Toriola featured alongside Egyptian youngster Youssef Abdelaziz and Greek veteran Panagiotis Gionis.

There was also a winning start for Nigeria’s Olajide Omotayo and Taiwo Mati, although neither featured as Le Havre ATT recorded a 3-1 victory over Boulogne Billancourt AC.

Algeria’s Stephane Ouaiche helped Caen TTC cruise to a 3-0 win over Miramas AS, a result that placed Caen at the top of the standings after the opening round.

Meanwhile, compatriot Maheidine Bella’s Proville ASL suffered a 3-1 defeat to Pontoise-Cergy AS, with Bella’s side managing just one point from the tie.

Benin Republic’s Salifou Abdel-Kader was not named in Compiégnois TT’s lineup as his team fell 3-0 to Bouloussa’s Courbevoie.

Following the opening round, Caen lead the table, with Amiens sitting third.

Aruna and Amiens will be back in action on Tuesday, September 29, when they travel to face Toriola’s Nantes in what promises to be an intriguing African showdown.
