Bukola Olopade hails Nyesom Wike over Gwagwalada mini-stadium project

The Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon.

Bukola Olopade, has applauded the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over plans to construct a mini stadium in Gwagwalada, describing the project as a major step towards strengthening grassroots sports development.

Olopade noted that the proposed facility would not only improve access to sporting infrastructure for young athletes in the FCT but also serve as one of the venues for the 2027 African School Games scheduled to take place in Abuja.

He said the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly the Federal Government's commitment to upgrading sports infrastructure and creating opportunities for young and elite athletes across the country.

“The construction of the Gwagwalada Mini Stadium by the FCT Minister is a massive welcome development for the Sports Commission. The Minister deserves all the accolades for the good work he has been doing in the FCT, particularly in the area of construction and infrastructure development,” Olopade said.

He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his support for the sports sector, adding that the administration's investment in infrastructure would help expand grassroots participation, strengthen talent discovery and improve Nigeria's competitiveness on the global sporting stage.

The NSC reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders, including the FCT Administration, to ensure the provision of modern sporting facilities that will promote grassroots participation and accelerate the overall development of sports in Nigeria.
