CGC Volleyball Premier League: Thrilling five-set battles dominate Day two in Abuja

Action intensified on Day Two of the ongoing Third Edition of the Comptroller General of Customs Volleyball Premier League on Tuesday, June 16, at the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium, Abuja.

From the first whistle, both courts—hosting men’s and women’s fixtures simultaneously—delivered nonstop spikes, blocks, and rallies that kept spectators engaged throughout the day.

The standout fixture of the day came in the women’s category, where Excelsior and Anambra Queens produced a marathon five-set encounter that stretched for hours.

In a tightly contested battle that swung both ways, Anambra Queens eventually prevailed 3–2.

Set 1: 25–21 (Excelsior)

Set 2: 20–25 (Anambra Queens)

Set 3: 25–22 (Excelsior)

Set 4: 23–25 (Anambra Queens)

Set 5: 14–16 (Anambra Queens)

In another women’s fixture, Nigeria Customs Service delivered a commanding 3–0 win over VIP & Partner, controlling all three sets with scores of 25–20, 25–11, and 25–20.

Similarly, CNS Spikers produced a ruthless performance against Fire Service, sealing a straight-sets victory (25–8, 25–15, 25–14).

The men’s contest between Ajase Ipo and NSCDC turned into another five-set thriller.

NSCDC started strong, taking the first set 25–16 and edging the second 25–23. However, Ajase Ipo fought back impressively, winning the third and fourth sets 25–21 and 25–21 to force a decisive fifth set.

The final set was tense and dramatic, with both sides trading match points. Ajase Ipo missed an early chance following a service error, and NSCDC capitalized to close out the match 19–17 and win 3–2.

In another men’s fixture, COAS Spikers showed dominance over Offa, winning comfortably in straight sets (25–15, 25–11, 25–20).

Meanwhile, Defence Spikers overcame Life Camp VC in a four-set contest, securing a 3–1 victory. The set scores were 25–18, 25–27, 25–17, and a tight 30–28 finish in the fourth.

All matches took place at the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium, Abuja, which continues to host high-intensity fixtures as the tournament progresses.
