Djurgården snaps Goodness Osigwe from Edo Queens
Swedish giants Djurgården have announced the signing of Nigerian winger Goodness Osigwe from NWFL Premiership side Edo Queens
Osigwe was a standout performer for Edo Queens, playing a pivotal role in their 2024 domestic triumph, their WAFU-B Champions League qualifiers victory, and a commendable fourth-place finish at the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The 19-year-old also boasts international pedigree, having represented Nigeria at the U20 level, including the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.
Djurgården sporting director Jean Balawo revealed he was impressed by Osigwe’s display at the global tournament.
“I first noticed Osigwe during the U20 World Cup in Colombia. She made a decisive assist against Japan in a tough game, and her quality really stood out despite Nigeria losing 2–1,” Balawo said.
Excited about her new challenge, Osigwe described herself as an attacking threat with pace and flair.
“I am quick and like to take on opponents with my dribbling. I’ve managed to score some goals as well, and I play with confidence, which is important for me on the pitch,” she said.
While acknowledging that moving to Sweden and settling in Stockholm is a big step, the winger called the transfer a privilege and an exciting moment in her career.
Osigwe is now eligible to feature for Djurgården in the Damallsvenskan and could make her debut in Monday’s Stockholm derby against rivals Hammarby.
