D'Tigers rise to 52nd in latest FIBA World ranking
Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have climbed one spot to 52nd in the latest FIBA World Ranking despite winning just one of their three games in the most recent window of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers.
Nigeria began the qualifying window with defeats to Cameroon and South Sudan before ending on a positive note with a victory over Cape Verde.
The results were enough to move D’Tigers up one place to 52nd in the world, although they remain eighth among African teams.
South Sudan continue to occupy the top spot on the continent. The Bright Stars are ranked 24th globally, further underlining their status as Africa’s highest-ranked men’s basketball team.
D’Tigers will now look to build one their improved world ranking and strengthen their position as they prepare for the remaining stages of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers.
