Eid-el-Kabir: FG announces 50% train fare discount

The Federal Government has approved a 50 per cent reduction in fares on all passenger train services operated by Nigeria Railway Corporation as part of measures to ease transportation costs during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The announcement was made in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Transportation through its Information and Public Relations Officer, Gift Osima.

According to the statement, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Funsho Adebiyi, said the fare reduction will take effect from Tuesday, May 26, and remain valid until Monday, June 1.

The ministry explained that ticket prices across all NRC passenger routes nationwide have been slashed by 50 per cent from the existing approved rates throughout the festive period.

Passengers who had already purchased tickets at the old rates before the announcement will also benefit from the initiative through a 50 per cent rebate, which can be used for train trips on or before June 1.

The government noted that train schedules and operational timetables would remain unchanged during the period.

Adebiyi thanked Nigerians for their continued support and wished Muslim faithful and all passengers a peaceful and joyful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
