Falmingos target winning start against Poland at 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, will kick off their 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup campaign against Poland on Saturday, October 17, at Pitch 4 of the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Morocco.

The Nigerian youngsters will be eager to make a strong impression and progress beyond the Round of 16, where their campaign ended at the previous edition following a 4-0 defeat to Italy.

The Flamingos secured their place at the tournament after overcoming Guinea and Benin Republic in a demanding qualifying campaign, demonstrating their determination and attacking quality on the road to Morocco.

Their ability to score goals during the qualifiers will be an important asset as they prepare to face stronger opposition on the global stage.

Poland, meanwhile, are returning to the competition after missing the 2025 edition. Their last appearance was in 2024 in the Dominican Republic, where they reached the quarter-finals before losing to eventual champions Korea DPR.

Saturday’s encounter will be the first meeting between Nigeria and Poland at this level, with both sides looking to begin their campaigns on a positive note.

Nigeria have been drawn in Group B alongside Poland, Puerto Rico and defending champions Korea DPR, making a strong start particularly important as they pursue a place in the knockout stages.

The Flamingos, who claimed bronze at the 2022 edition, will be determined to build on that achievement and make a deeper run in Morocco.

A victory over Poland would provide Nigeria with an encouraging start and boost their confidence ahead of their remaining group-stage fixtures.
