Fast rising sprinter Anita Enaruna joins Arizona State University
Nigeria’s growing footprint in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has expanded once again with the addition of rising sprint sensation Anita Enaruna to Arizona State University.
The Arizona State Sun Devils confirmed her signing on Wednesday, posting on Instagram: “International Devils. Welcome aboard, Anita!”
Enaruna, 19, who competes primarily in the 200m and 400m, burst onto the scene earlier this year at the CAA U-18 and U-20 Championships in Abeokuta. There, she formed part of Nigeria’s victorious U-20 women’s 4x100m relay team, combining with Lucy Nwankwo, Success Oyibu, and Chioma Nweke to strike gold in 45.58s.
Her impressive rise continued at the CAA Region II Senior Athletics Championships in Ghana, where she claimed the 200m title in 23.91s.
Just this month, she lowered her 200m personal best to 23.36s, emerging as the fastest qualifier for the final at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where she eventually placed sixth in 24.03s.
Enaruna also featured in Nigeria’s gold-winning mixed 4x400m relay team, running alongside Gafari Badmus, Ezekiel Asuquo, and Patience Okon George. The quartet clocked a season’s best of 3:16.27 to finish ahead of Bahrain and Turkey.
Her 400m personal best remains 53.67s, set earlier in the season in Abeokuta.
With her move to Arizona State, Enaruna joins a growing list of Nigerian athletes making their mark in the NCAA,and she is set for an exciting new chapter in her sprinting career.
