Golden Eaglets step up WAFU-B U-17 preparations with win and draw
Five-time world champions Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets continued their preparations for the upcoming WAFU-B U17 Championship with a 4-0 victory over Simonben Academy at the FIFA Goal Project pitch inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Saturday.
The Golden Eaglets dominated the opening half and created several opportunities, but they could only take a slender lead into the break. Simonben Academy, who travelled from Kaduna, offered strong resistance and kept the scoreline respectable.
However, the visitors were unable to maintain their resilience after the restart as the Coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere-led Eaglets stepped up their attacking display. Nigeria added three more goals in the second half to complete a convincing 4-0 victory.
Later in the evening, the Golden Eaglets returned to the same venue for another friendly, this time against Abuja-based Galadima FC.
Unlike the earlier encounter, the Eaglets struggled to break down a determined Galadima side. Despite sustained efforts from Nigeria, Galadima held firm to secure a goalless draw.
The two matches provided valuable competitive action for the Golden Eaglets as they intensify preparations for the WAFU-B U17 Championship, scheduled to take place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, from October 4 to 17.
