Super Eagles unmoved in December FIFA ranking
Nigeria have maintained their position in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings, finishing December 2025, ranked 38th globally, according to the update released on Monday.
With no competitive fixtures played since the previous release, the Super Eagles retained their November points total of 1,502, ensuring there was no movement in their global standing.
On the African ladder, Nigeria remain fifth, trailing continental heavyweights Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria. Morocco continues to lead the continent at 11th in the world, with Senegal 19th, while Algeria and Egypt sit just ahead of Nigeria in 34th and 35th places respectively.
Elsewhere on the continent, Tunisia is ranked 41st globally, followed closely by Côte d’Ivoire in 42nd. Mali (53rd), DR Congo (56th), and Cameroon (57th) complete Africa’s top 10 nations in the latest standings.
At the summit of the global rankings, Spain remain number one after reclaiming top spot from Argentina in September. France hold third place, while England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia complete an unchanged top 10.
The December edition, the final ranking of 2025, was shaped by 42 international matches, with the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 taking centre stage. Morocco’s triumph at the tournament moved them within touching distance of the world’s top 10, leaving them just 0.54 points behind Croatia.
Among the biggest movers of the year were Kosovo, who surged 19 places to 80th after an impressive run of seven wins and two draws from 10 matches. Norway (29th) and Suriname (123rd) also enjoyed notable climbs, while Jordan, Vietnam, and Singapore recorded the largest gains in December.
For Nigeria, holding steady reflects a degree of stability, but it also highlights the need for progress as the Super Eagles look to boost their ranking during the ongoing AFCON 2025 campaign.
