IGP Olatunji Disu pledges stronger investment in sports development
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has pledged increased support for sports development within the Nigeria Police Force, promising greater investment in both volleyball and other athletic programmes.
He made the commitment on Friday, June 27, in Abuja during the 3rd CGC Volleyball Premier League (1st phase), where he watched the Police volleyball team deliver an impressive performance against the Sunshine Spikers.
The match, part of the CGC Volleyball Premier League, highlighted the growing competitiveness of Police athletes despite limited training resources. Following the encounter, Disu commended the team for their determination, discipline, and resilience on the court.
He said the performance of the players reflected the strength and spirit of officers in service, noting that their effort deserved stronger institutional backing.
“You have seen the tenacity of a policeman in action. I am so happy to have been here today, and they have made me so happy.
“They have done so well. How else can I honour them? By owning the sport and sponsoring it. Definitely, we will do something like this, not only for volleyball but for judo and every other sport,” he stated.
Disu further assured that the Force would continue to motivate and support its athletes by providing improved resources and opportunities to excel in sports.
“I can't be the Inspector-General of Police and my men are doing well and not looking forward to the future. I will endeavour to ensure that I encourage them. How do I encourage them? By giving them everything that we know,” he added.
The Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Police Force, has in recent years expanded its involvement in sports as part of efforts to promote fitness, teamwork, and morale among personnel. The match featured the Police team against the Sunshine Spikers, Sunshine Spikers, who provided strong opposition in the contest.
