Jennifer Echegini marks 50th appearance for PSG with decisive strike against Marseille
Jennifer Echegini celebrated a memorable milestone in style, scoring on her 50th appearance for Paris Saint-Germain Féminine to inspire a 2–1 victory over Olympique de Marseille in the Division 1 Féminine on Wednesday.
Fresh from international duty with the Super Falcons following the postponement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, the Nigerian midfielder returned to club action with a performance that proved decisive in a tightly fought contest.
For much of the game, both sides battled for control with few clear openings, but the breakthrough finally arrived in the 72nd minute. Echegini showed composure inside the box, calmly finishing after being picked out by Merveille Kanjinga to hand PSG a deserved lead.
The goal ended her scoring drought since finding the net against Benfica in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and added extra significance as it came on a landmark night for the midfielder in Paris colours.
PSG tightened their grip on the game eight minutes later when Tara Elimbi doubled the advantage in the 80th minute, applying a fine finish after an excellent build-up involving Sakina Karchaoui.
Marseille responded quickly, reducing the deficit in the 83rd minute through Jenny Perret, but the hosts managed the closing stages well to secure their 12th league victory of the campaign.
Super Falcons forward Rasheedat Ajibade also featured in the encounter, starting the match and injecting energy into PSG’s attack before making way in the second half for Elimbi.
The victory keeps the Parisians firmly in second place in the Division 1 Féminine standings, though they remain 10 points behind reigning champions Olympique Lyonnais as the title race continues.
