Nigeria's female Yellow Greens fall to Namibia in T20 World Cup Qualifiers
Nigeria’s Female Yellow Greens suffered an eight-wicket defeat to host Namibia in their second group match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Division 1 Qualifier in Windhoek on Monday.
The Nigerians had opened their campaign in style with a commanding 96-run victory over Sierra Leone on Sunday, but they struggled to replicate that form against the hosts, who secured their first win of the tournament.
Batting first, Nigeria was bowled out for 70 in 18.4 overs. Salome Sunday (22 off 28 balls), Oseyande Omonkhobhio (14 off 11), and Kehinde Amusa (12 off 34) were the only batters to reach double figures.
Namibia’s bowlers dominated the innings, with Saima Tahaduleni leading the attack (3/13), while Kayleen Green (2/10) and Mekelanye Mwatile (2/16) provided strong support.
In reply, Namibia made light work of the chase, cruising to 71/2 in just 9.5 overs. Yasmeen Khan was the star of the innings, smashing 51 off 30 balls, with Green adding 15 off 20 and Mwatile finishing unbeaten on 4.
Nigeria’s only breakthroughs came through Kehinde Amusa (1/10) and Lilian Ude (1/14).
Despite the setback, Nigeria remains second in the group with two points, trailing leaders Zimbabwe by two. The Zimbabweans defeated Namibia by 32 runs on Sunday before brushing aside Sierra Leone by 10 wickets on Monday.
Nigeria will now face Zimbabwe in their final group fixture on Wednesday, a clash that could decide the group standings.
The top two teams in each group advance to the semi-finals, with the finalists securing Africa’s two slots at the global qualifiers later this year.
