Junior D'Tigress return to winning ways

Nigeria’s U19 Women’s Basketball team returned to winning ways with a confident 68-58 victory over Argentina on Thursday, July 18, 2025, in the 9–15 Classification Round of the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup.

Wandoo Hembam and Nora Ezike led the charge for the Junior D’Tigress, combining for 34 points in a performance that snapped their three-game losing streak and reignited team spirit ahead of the final stretch of the tournament.

Though Nigeria is no longer in contention for a podium finish, the win earns them a place in the 9–12 classification games. They’ll take on South Korea today, Friday, July 19, at 3:00 p.m. as they continue their quest for a top-10 finish.

South Korea enters the match fresh off an 87-80 triumph over Brazil, their first win of the competition, in a thrilling game that featured a lot of three-pointers. Minji Lee dropped a game-high 28 points, while Hyun Jeong added 19 points and 8 assists in a standout performance.

Jeong will be the player to watch against Nigeria. She has been South Korea’s most consistent performer, leading the team in scoring (12.4 PPG), rebounds (5.2 RPG), and assists (3.2 APG). She’s also shooting an impressive 41.2% from beyond the arc and 83.3% from the free-throw line.

As both teams look to close out their World Cup campaigns on a high, today’s clash promises to deliver fast-paced action and high-level youth basketball.
