Landon Emenalo reveals three positions he can play after joining Celtic
Landon Emenalo, son of former Super Eagles defender Michael Emenalo, has highlighted his versatility after arriving at Scottish giants Celtic on loan from Chelsea.
The young defender joined the Hoops during the summer transfer window but arrived late as he continued his recovery from an injury setback.
Following his arrival from Stamford Bridge, Emenalo took part in training with his new teammates on Tuesday as he looks to regain full fitness, settle into his new environment and begin his journey at Celtic Park.
Speaking to Celtic’s official YouTube channel, the defender expressed his excitement at finally joining the club and meeting his new teammates.
“It is really an honour to be here, especially after all this time. It's so good to train today, meet the guys and can't wait to get started,” Emenalo said.
The youngster also revealed that his existing relationship with fellow Chelsea academy product Shim Mheuka has helped ease his transition to the Scottish club.
“I know Shim Mheuka from Chelsea. It's nice to know somebody here, but they welcomed me. It is easy to join,” he added.
Emenalo explained that he had followed Mheuka’s progress and was pleased to reunite with someone he had known since their Under-15 days.
“Since he has joined I have been watching and reading. He had done well. I have known him since Under-15,” he said.
The defender also praised the reception he received from the Celtic manager and other members of the club, revealing that their words of encouragement had helped him feel welcome.
“They seem happy that I am finally here and he gave me some words of encouragement and welcomed me. Just looking on and seeing the stadium, it's crazy. I can't wait to get out there,” Emenalo stated.
Beyond his excitement about joining Celtic, the Chelsea loanee outlined the different roles he can perform on the pitch, identifying left-back as his primary position while also offering options in midfield and central defence.
“I am a left back. I can drift inside and play as a midfielder. I can also play as a third centre back. I am a hard worker and versatile. There is not really a lot I can't do,” he concluded.
His ability to operate in multiple positions could provide Celtic with additional options as he works towards establishing himself in the first team.
For now, Emenalo will focus on completing his recovery, maintaining his fitness and adapting to his new surroundings before demonstrating his qualities on the pitch.
The youngster will be eager to make the most of the opportunity at Celtic as he continues his development following his move from Chelsea.
