Morocco's AS FAR seal FIFA Champions Cup spot after CAF Champions League triumph

AS FAR have secured Africa’s coveted slot at the inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, edging ASEC Mimosas 2–1 in Friday’s tense CAF Women’s Champions League Final to reclaim continental supremacy and book their return to the global stage.

The Moroccan champions entered the final knowing that victory would not only deliver the continental crown but also confirm their presence among the world’s elite at December’s historic tournament. With composure and efficiency, they rose to the occasion, converting two decisive penalties to lift the trophy and punch their ticket to the Women’s Champions Cup.

AS FAR took the lead in the 13th minute when Hanane Aït El Haj calmly dispatched the opening penalty after Safa Banouk was fouled inside the box. The early breakthrough set the tone as the Moroccan giants controlled the flanks, using the pace of Zineb Erroudany and Banouk to keep ASEC under sustained pressure.

ASEC Mimosas responded early in the second half, with Ami Prisca Diallo heading home a superb cross from Sopie Philomene Marie Ange Brou to level the score and momentarily threaten AS FAR’s continental aspirations.

But AS FAR, aware of what was at stake, maintained their composure and pushed for a winner. Their persistence paid off in the 84th minute when Sofia Bouftini was brought down in the box, allowing experienced defender Zineb Redouani to step up and convert the decisive penalty that secured both the trophy and their ticket to the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.

AS FAR will now represent Africa in Round Two of the global tournament, where they will face Chinese champions Wuhan Chegu Jiangda WFC on 14 December at the Stade Municipal de Berrechid.

With continental duties completed, the Moroccan powerhouse can now shift full focus to preparing for the Women’s Champions Cup — where they aim to showcase Africa’s strength on the world stage.
