Amun demands NFF Statutes overhaul
Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Ethics Committee member Ambassador Fanny Amun (MON) has called for fundamental reforms to the federation’s statutes, insisting that credible, experienced and knowledgeable football stakeholders must be given greater access to the system to restore confidence in Nigerian football.
Amun made the call in Abuja while briefing journalists on the report of a six member committee he chaired, which examined Nigeria’s recent disappointing performances in international football.
The committee reviewed governance, financial management, technical development, grassroots football, player welfare, national team administration and league management.
Its findings highlighted problems including player release and communication challenges, inadequate preparation, medical and injury management concerns, camp administration and technical coordination.
The committee also recommended improved use of technology and data, stronger age-verification measures, long term development plans for the men’s and women’s game, better league structures and regular training for technical and administrative personnel.
Governance was identified as a major concern, with Amun criticising the failure of the NFF Congress to adopt workable statutory amendments that would broaden participation and strengthen accountability.
He advocated a Congress made up of credible and experienced football personalities, with members limited to two terms, arguing that such reforms would prevent excessive concentration of power and encourage fresh ideas.
The committee also called for thorough investigation of allegations involving undue influence in player invitations, financial inducements, disparities in remuneration and prolonged retention of officials in lucrative positions.
Amun stressed that the report would only make an impact if its recommendations were implemented, urging genuine political will and a collective commitment to transparency, professionalism, accountability and the sustainable rebuilding of Nigerian football.
