Morocco seals The Pingry School as Official Base Camp fo 2026 FIFA World Cup
In a landmark move for Morocco’s FIFA World Cup 2026™ preparations, Governor Mikie Sherrill, alongside Morocco’s Ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, officially announced The Pingry School as the national team’s permanent base camp for the tournament. The historic facility, which previously served as a training center during the 1994 World Cup, underwent a complete renovation in 2025, now featuring two international-standard grass pitches and a state-of-the-art athletics center.
The decision is designed to give coach Mohamed Ouahbi and his players the optimal environment as they gear up for their highly anticipated opening match against Brazil on June 13 at MetLife Stadium. For Governor Sherrill, the announcement carries special meaning, given that New Jersey is home to nearly 10,000 residents of Moroccan descent, creating a true “home away from home” for the squad.
Prior to the announcement, Ambassador Amrani conducted a thorough inspection and diplomatic mission. After evaluating the training facilities, he met with the Commissioner for International Affairs of the New York Mayor’s Office to coordinate security, hospitality, and media management for Morocco’s presence in the region.
Highlighting the unifying power of football, the Ambassador expressed gratitude to local authorities and emphasized the sport’s ability to forge lasting international connections. With three other nations preparing to designate New Jersey as their base camp, Morocco has set a benchmark by securing a premier facility that blends technical excellence with strong community support.
