NNL Super 4: Sporting Lagos storm clear at summit after crushing win over Doma United

Sporting Lagos produced a ruthless second-half performance on Wednesday night to dismantle Doma United 4-0 and seize control of the NNL Super Four standings with a perfect six points.

The encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium began with both teams showing attacking intent. Doma United threatened first in the fifth minute when Mathew weaved past his marker from the left flank before forcing a low effort that was blocked behind for a corner.

Sporting Lagos responded 10 minutes later as Akanni raced through on goal, but the forward failed to convert the promising opportunity.

As the contest settled, Sporting Lagos gradually took command through quicker passing and better midfield organization. Their dominance eventually paid off in the 27th minute when Seun Akanji reacted fastest inside the area to poke home from close range and hand his side a deserved lead.

The Lagos side headed into the break with a slim advantage, but looked the more dangerous team throughout the opening half.

Any hopes of a Doma United comeback disappeared almost immediately after the restart. Just two minutes into the second half, Shola doubled Sporting’s advantage after capitalizing on a rebound from Victor’s fierce long-range strike that slipped from the goalkeeper’s grasp.

Doma United attempted to change the momentum with a series of substitutions, but Sporting Lagos remained firmly in control and continued to create the better openings.

Captain Uloko then took center stage late in the game.

The skipper reacted quickest during a crowded goalmouth situation in the 80th minute to make it 3-0 before completing his brace eight minutes later with an emphatic finish to cap a dominant display.

The victory marked Sporting Lagos’ second consecutive win following their opening 1-0 success against Ranchers Bees, placing them firmly in pole position in the race for the NNL Super Four title.
