Morocco welcomes Africa to Tangier for ITTF Africa Championships 2026
As anticipation builds for the ITTF Africa Championships Tangier 2026, from 18 to 25 October 2026. The Royal Moroccan Table Tennis Federation (RMTTF) has assured that Tangier 2026 will be a befitting showcase of African table tennis — one that exemplifies the sport’s quality, talent, and growing stature across the continent.
Speaking ahead of the continental showpiece, Royal Moroccan Table Tennis Federation (RMTTF) President Anas Ziati described hosting the ITTF Africa Championships 2026 as a great honour for Morocco. He emphasised that the event places the nation on a pedestal as a unifying force, bringing African nations together through sport and fostering closer relationships among member associations.
“Morocco is proud of its African identity, and delighted to host this major event. We look forward to strengthening cooperation, exchanging expertise and working together for the development of our sport in Africa,” Ziati said.
Tangier will welcome players from nearly 30 countries, alongside coaches, officials and delegations from across the continent, for a week of competition that will showcase the depth of talent in African table tennis. With continental titles at stake, the championships will also provide tickets to the global stage, as athletes vie for qualification places at the ITTF World Championships Finals in Astana in 2027.
Ziati assured participants that Morocco is prepared to provide favourable conditions for competition while offering them an opportunity to experience the country’s hospitality and cultural richness.
“We are committed to providing the best conditions for your stay, competition and overall experience. We hope you will also enjoy the beauty, culture and hospitality of Tangier and take home wonderful memories from Morocco,” Ziati added.
The 2026 edition marks Morocco’s return as host, a decade after the continental showpiece was held in Agadir in 2016. Hosting the event once again offers the North African nation an opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to African table tennis and its capacity to stage major international competitions.
Preparations have also benefited from support from Morocco’s sports authorities, government stakeholders, and corporate partners. Ziati expressed his gratitude for their contributions, commending their role in helping deliver a successful championship.
“Let us make Tangier 2026 a true celebration of African table tennis - a tournament of excellence, fair play and stronger partnerships for a brighter future,” he concluded
On the court, Morocco will count on the energy of home support as they aim to build on their men’s team bronze medal from the previous championships.
Alongside the experienced core, the country’s growing youthful squad will gain invaluable exposure by competing against Africa’s finest, an opportunity that promises both development and inspiration in front of their home crowd.
