Murjanatu Musa helps Basket Landes clinch French league title

Nigerian forward Murjanatu Musa played a key role as Basket Landes emerged champions of the French Ligue Féminine de Basketball after edging Tango Bourges Basket 53-50 in a tense Game 3 decider on Sunday.

Musa delivered another solid performance in the title-clinching encounter, finishing with eight points, nine rebounds, and two assists to end the night as the team’s third-highest scorer.

The Nigerian maintained her consistency throughout the finals series, contributing eight points and nine rebounds in Game 2 after recording eight points, three rebounds, and one assist in the opening game.

Her contributions helped Basket Landes secure a 2-1 series victory, sealing back-to-back league titles and the third championship in the club’s history.

The deciding clash lived up to expectations, with both sides battling fiercely from the opening tip-off. The first quarter ended 15-15, while neither team could be separated at halftime as the scores remained locked at 27-27.

Tango Bourges appeared to seize control after taking a 40-36 lead into the final quarter, but Basket Landes responded strongly when it mattered most.

With the game hanging in the balance, Marie Pardon knocked down a decisive three-pointer with 17 seconds left to swing momentum firmly in Landes’ favour before they closed out the victory in dramatic fashion.

Leila Lacan starred with 19 points and was named Finals MVP as Basket Landes completed a domestic double, having already lifted the French Cup earlier in the season.
