Amaju Pinnick appointed special adviser to CAF President
Former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has been appointed Special Adviser to the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe.
Motsepe made the announcement during a live-streamed press conference on YouTube on Saturday, officially welcoming Pinnick back into the top ranks of African football governance.
“I didn’t know Amaju is so loved in CAF,” Motsepe remarked, highlighting the warm reception Pinnick's return has generated within the continental body.
With this appointment, Pinnick is expected to attend all CAF executive meetings in an advisory capacity. The new role not only marks his reintegration into CAF’s leadership but also recognizes his longstanding contributions to the growth of African football.
The 54-year-old had previously served as CAF’s First Vice President under former president Ahmad Ahmad between September 2018 and July 2019. Although he recently lost his seat on the FIFA Executive Committee, this new CAF role underscores his continued relevance on the international football stage.
Pinnick led the NFF from 2014 to 2022, securing re-election for a second term in September 2018. He also holds the distinction of being the third Nigerian to serve on the FIFA Council after Oyo Orok Oyo and Amos Adamu.
Currently, Pinnick is a member of the FIFA Organising Committee for Competitions.
