Murjanatu Musa joins Basket Landes for 2025-26 season
French top-flight side Basket Landes have announced the signing of Nigerian centre Murjanatu Musa on a one-year deal ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.
The 25-year-old makes the switch from Tarbes Gespe Bigorre and most recently suited up for the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA. It was at Tarbes, however, that Musa truly shone producing multiple standout performances with over 16 rebounds and/or 20 points in both EuroCup Women and La Boulangère Wonderligue action, earning a spot in the league’s season-best starting five.
Renowned for her tireless energy, dominance on the boards, and defensive grit, Musa is expected to be a key force in the paint for Basket Landes as they look to build on last season’s progress.
“We are happy to welcome Murjanatu,” the club said in a statement. “She will strengthen our interior presence and bring her full energy on both ends of the court. Her athletic profile and personal qualities are a perfect fit for Julie Barennes’ team identity.”
Her arrival follows another successful chapter with Nigeria’s women’s national team, D’Tigress, at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Abidjan. Musa helped the side clinch a historic fifth consecutive continental title and a ticket to the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
Named in coach Rena Wakama’s final 12-player roster, she opened the tournament with 12 points and 5 rebounds against Rwanda, before posting a commanding double-double 12 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals in the win over Mozambique that secured Nigeria’s quarter-final spot. Musa finished the tournament averaging 7.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game, according to FIBA statistics.
With her mix of experience, physicality, and competitive edge, Basket Landes will be counting on Musa to anchor their frontcourt as they chase domestic honours and continental success.
