NBBF clears Abdullahi, Oyedeji, Ugboaja for Presidential Poll
The Electoral Committee of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has cleared Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, Olumide Oyedeji and Ejike Ugboaja to contest in the federation’s presidential election scheduled for October 15.
Meanwhile, Mark Ugoche has been given until Monday to submit his tax clearance certificate to complete his qualification requirements, while Ayo Bakare has been disqualified over the late submission of his documents.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr Lanre Glover, announced the decisions during a press conference in Abuja on Saturday, where he provided updates on the screening of candidates ahead of the election.
Glover confirmed that Abdullahi, Oyedeji and Ugboaja had met the requirements to contest the presidential race.
He added that Ugoche had been granted an extension until Monday to submit his outstanding tax clearance certificate and fulfil the remaining electoral requirement.
Bakare, however, was disqualified after the committee cited the late submission of his documents as the reason for its decision.
The October 15 election, scheduled to take place at the ICC Centre, will determine the leadership of the NBBF for the next administration.
Basketball stakeholders will be hoping for a credible electoral process that produces leadership capable of advancing the growth and development of the sport in Nigeria.
