NRC Confirms Abuja–Kaduna Train Derailment, Assures Passenger Safety

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that one of its Kaduna-bound AKTS trains derailed on Tuesday morning along the Abuja–Kaduna corridor.

In a statement signed by Managing Director Mr. Kayode Opeifa, the NRC said the incident occurred at 11:09 a.m. at Kilometre 49, between Kubwa and Asham stations.

Emergency response teams were immediately activated, with rescue personnel, medical staff, and nearby hospitals placed on standby. Security operatives have also been deployed to the site to safeguard passengers and property.

The NRC disclosed that evacuation of travellers from the affected train is ongoing, with arrangements being made to convey all passengers back to Abuja.

Reassuring the public, the corporation emphasized that every necessary measure is being taken to ensure the safety of passengers. “We appeal for calm and patience. The NRC deeply regrets the incident and appreciates the cooperation of Nigerians at this time,” the statement read.

While the cause of the derailment remains under investigation, the NRC maintained that passenger welfare is its top priority.
